Ridgewood Locals Love “Delicious Wok” on Myrtle Avenue
“The best Chinese food in Ridgewood”, states multiple Yelp users. Delicious Wok definitely has rave reviews. It is your typical American Chinese food takeout joint, run by some sweet folks and supposedly the flavors are “pretty solid”. I have embedded the positive Yelp responses below.
Luncheon specials are served from 11am-3pm. You can have your typical Chinese food add-ons like pork fried rice or brown rice, wonton soup, egg drop soup, and a can of soda, also hot and sour soup for a little extra.
I love to order their combined wonton and egg drop soup and when I’m feeling (kind of) healthy I get chicken and broccoli. When I’m feeling angry at the world (all of 2017…haha), I usually get the sweet and sour chicken, which is one of their more popular dishes. If you would like to learn the history of Chinese American food in the United States, I would like to recommend the documentary The Search for General Tso. Basically, the Chinese takeout you eat is not directly Chinese, but was created for American taste buds. Even fortune cookies are not Chinese. Here is a synopsis:
“Director Ian Cheney (King Corn, The City Dark) journeys from Shanghai to New York to the American Midwest and beyond to uncover the origins of this iconic dish [General Tso Chicken], turning up surprising revelations and a host of humorous characters along the way. Told with the verve of a good detective story,The Search for General Tso is as much about food as it is a tale of the American immigrant experience. A Sundance Selects release from IFC Films.” – thesearchforgeneraltso.com
