Matthew Gonzalez is a 22 year-old pioneer in the Ridgewood community. He is a Ridgewood native and his family is from Puerto Rico. He started boxing at the age of 8 and started competing at the age of 10. At an early age he won two national amateur tournaments: Ringside and Junior Golden Gloves. He also won dozens of local tournaments including Junior Olympics and Metros. He has also competed in the 2016 Olympic qualifiers and the semi-finals of the Daily News Golden Gloves.

He currently has a pro career at 2-0 (2KO) and has recently been signed by El Matador Management.

As a pro athlete, he excels in and out of the boxing ring. Regardless of all his hardships and statistics, he managed to graduate high school, take college courses, volunteer, and work in his local gym. He is training in the gym’s “Anti-Bulling Youth Program” while also pursuing his boxing dream.

Mathew Gonzalez is a prime example of the hard work, talent, and dedication that the Ridgewood, Queens boxing community needs to keep the profession alive. His story teaches the urban boxing community to stay in school, give back to the community, be competitive, and never give up. He provides the youth with inspiration with the overall balance in his life, work, friends, and family.

Matthew’s boxing dream is becoming a reality and will be featured at the Barclays Center January 20th on the Spence vs Peterson (World title bout) undercard.
